If you are setting up a net sticking to the band plan is probably a
good idea. If we follow the ARRL plan then 7.080 to 7.100 is the RTTY
sub band. That may change when the FCC decides what to do with the
Novice bands but right now 7.080 to 7.100 is the slot. See

On 40 M I would avoid anything that is a round multiple of 5 KHz to
stay away from SWBC carriers. Roughly a 1 KHz spacing off of any of
those points is probably a good idea to reduce the effects of the bulk
of their audio. That gives us a set of 3 KHz wide slots that make some
sort of sense.
How about 30 meters ? Nice empty band with no short wave broadcasters
and no SSB from the rest of the world. Open a lot of the time ....
