[GreenKeys] SELCAL - auto start proposed - FCC Rules?

Hi

Here's one I simply have not looked into in a *long* time. Hopefully
somebody already knows the answer. I know that a lot has changed with
what you can and can not do on digital over the years. I'm just to lazy
to get up and pull the rule book off the shelf and look it up.

Is it legal to send a "confirm" transmission back once I get a message
to my selcal?

Obviously the answer has always been yes *if* I am sitting at the
transmitter and watching what is going on.

Not so obviously the answer *may* be yes even if I am not sitting
there, provided other constraints have been met. I have a nagging
suspicion that the answer is different on HF than it is on VHF.

An example of what I'm talking about is the packet based location stuff
that runs on 10 MHz and a normal packet bbs. Both systems *seem* to be
operation without monitoring ....

I don't want to turn this into a bbs or into anything other than a net.
All I'm asking about is a simple "yup I got your message number 33579"
type of reply.

	Thanks!
