I think what Jack is explaining is that on the 83B system all of the 
typing units received all of the traffic in their selectors and 
codebars, but did not print anything unless the message was for them. 
One of the jobs we used to do frequently to those machines was to 
install wear plates on the stuntbox.  There was so much repeated 
action that the pawls would actually wear slots in the frame of the 
stuntbox.
