There are clips available to hold the function bars away from the code pars so they don't make contact.
I have cleaned out the stuntbox on my present machine. 20 odd years ago I had it full of WRU, auto reply, and stuff. It would respond to certain sequences. Used to have "pix" as one, when I was collecting them. It would turn on the 'underdome' reperf so I could punch tape even if I wasn't home. We had a pretty active RTTY group on a vhf simplex autostart net in south Florida at the time. Then one of the members put up a vhf RTTY repeater (it had to hear a 2125 mark tone to open up.) and then things really got to be fun... Except when folks decided to ragchew at 100 wpm and the rest who had their machines at 60 wpm would have a lot of paper with miles of garble...
I've got my '28 KSR up and running online now. Gotta refine the hookup some, but it works.
