[GreenKeys] the rtty blues (still)

Hi folks:

Well, for the last couple of weeks, I have been trying in vain to find an
rtty signal with MMTTY. Anything at all with readable text. Just to put a
stupid grin on my face. I would also like to be able to find something for
the dovetron to listen to, eventually.

I have about 50-feet of antenna wire suspended in an L shape over the
building's flat roof, end-connected to an rg-58 center conductor. I seem
to get decent reception on the TS-430. I'm sure a better antenna would
help, but that's what I have for now.

I have been checking the ham bands daily, at different times, and can only
find cw, ssb voice, and some data stuff that is not rtty. I have tried
freq suggestions from past greenkeys posts as well, though not daily.

Outside the ham rtty bands, notably around 7500 KHz, I regularly find a
couple of 850-Hz shift signals -- these are strong and clean and show a
good cross pattern on MMTTY's meter. Sadly, these seem to be encrypted
text, or there is something that I am not doing properly. I have tried
different baud rates, and mark/space reversal, to no avail.

I have been led to believe that an 850-Hz shift will typically be using
75-wpm, and that a 170-Hz shift will be using 45.45-wpm. Are there other
standards? Is there anything else to tweak in MMTTY?

Sigh. Any thoughts appreciated,

gil
