I have 3 spring scales or "letter balances" that were issued to Teletype =
repairmen for setting the weight or pull required to complete specific =
mechanical actions of the machine. So these are basically calibrated =
springs attached to a 15 inch rod with a hook on the end. The idea is to =
hook the end of the rod on the action point and pull on the scale body, =
then read the scale at the moment that the action takes place to see how =
much weight or pull was required -- or some variation of that process.

The 3 scales I have are all made by Chatillions. One has a maximum range =
of 8 oz. Both of the others have a maximum range of 12 pounds. Each =
scale is about 5 inches long with the hooked rod extending another 5 =
inches on either side. One end of each scale has a metal ring for =
hanging the scale on a hook. All the scales are made of steel. They are =
well-used, but not rusty or broken. They have a lot of life left in =
them.

These are $10 each, postage-paid. Please specify whether you want the =
8oz or 12lb scale.
