Steve,
There should be keyed plugs from the LESU that will only fit in the
base and the typing unit. For machines that were used on telegraph
switching systems there was a second aux connector on the typing unit
(with the opposite keying from the main connector) that went to an
auxiliary terminal strip mounted on the right side inside the
cabinet. The connector closest to the frame of the typing unit is
the main connector, the aux connector does not need to be used.
All of the terminal strips should have individual colored wires going
to a separate individual binding posts. The connections for
different systems were accomplished by the use of different length
straps. Sadly all of my manuals and wiring diagrams are in San
Diego. When I am there in January I can call you and go over the
strapping and connections for your unit. On my way back t Illinois
in March I could also stop at your place in Kansas City.
I am supposed to have an M28 manual set here but I have not found it
since I moved.
Some folks just cut off the cables and wired their receive circuit
directly to the selector magnets. I do not like that approach. I
like to see the machines preserved the way they were designed.
Best regards,
Don
P.S. I bought a bottle of your family's German wine at our local
Polish delicatessen:
Schlink Haus Kabinett !!!
