Don,
Well here it is a year and a half later, and I'm finally getting situated
in KC.
I finished unloading the storage unit into the house, and one of the items
was my 28 KSR that is Bell System branded, Unit #1.
One of the things that always had me concerned was that there are two
cables coming out of either side of the ESU that have been chopped off.
I have another ESU and base that I salvage from a junk 28 RO let's call
this Unit #2
On the ESU of Unit #2, there are 2 cables coming out of each side:
On each side there is a cable with the 20 pin connector that goes to the
base and the typing unit, and a spade terminated cable.
On my (Unit #1) The spade terminated cables go to the terminal strip on the
inside rear of the cabinet.
Then there is a chopped cable on both sides of the ESU.
Next, there are two 20 pin connectorized cables from the terminal strip to
the base and the typing unit.
It appears to me that the cables were cut and reconnected to the terminal
strip, because there are no spades on the ends, just stripped wire ends.
FYI, this unit had the motor start/stop controller.
My thought is to swap out the ESU with the one that has not been
"modified". Both have identical model numbers.
I do have a fair collection of manuals for this beast including
disassembly, but I think I'll leave that for another time.
Anyway, if you can give me any insight into this cabling issue, I'd
appreciate it.
From the docs that I have, there were a number of modifications available
for this over the years.
I can post photos of any of this if you like.
Thanks,
Steve
