Y'know Gil, I answered so quickly I didn't look at all the variables you
requested...
Some depends on the actual condition of the unit as received. If it's in
good to excellent condition, then punching holes here and there might be
troublesome, but if the exterior is alread well worn, then what's a nother
ding or two.
In case 1 (good to excellent) (doubtful) then outboard components would
probably be welcome. If otherwise, then let 'er rip.
A pcb alone is a great start, and then the grateful recipients could
fabricate to their hearts content.
