I don't have anything newer than a 28 so don't have a clue as to dimensions.  
The original material was most likely neoprene for which effective specific 
adhesives are available.  However, given hot oil as the operating environmental 
conditions, I think Viton scores highest on the Parker chart.  E6000 will 
bond it to steel or aluminum.  Available in several durometers, of which 70 Shore 
A is or used to be common.
