Can you put approximate dates on this?
There was a later set of experiments. IEEE Transactions on Communication
Technology, August 1967, article by Selover, Griffith, Martin, and Spector
titled "Use of Commercial Broadcast Stations for Emergency DOD
Communications" They used frequency shifts of +/- 18 Hz and 100 wpm
operation. Hmmm - they refer to projects RESTORE and BRECOM. They show a
network in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and that area. The testing
was done May 1965 to June 1966.
Now I remember the late Merrill Swan telling me about such stuff, probably
in the early 1960s and he was talking about a Los Angeles station I think.
