Sheldon,
I think that was possible as AP owned the machines and bought up all
the spare parts. At Illinois Bell we were forced to take 14, 15 and
19 machines out of service at many locations as we ran out of parts.
They were replaced by all different models of machines. We never did
run out of parts for 28s, 33s, 35s and 40s! While I was with
Illinois Bell, in the Circuit Provisioning Center, I designed the
last installation of a Type 2 Dataspeed (BRPE) Receiver with 6 level
- advanced feed-hole for the AP at Paddock Publications (now Herald
Publications) about 1982. The machine had a special "news selector"
in the base to set it to receive the types of news the paper wanted.
The AP kept a stock of these special Dataspeed machines at a
warehouse in the East. I still have hopes of locating a Type 2
Receiver somewhere. We have a Type 2 Sender on its way coast to
coast, thanks to Jack Hart and Bill Donzelli.
Regards,
Don

>AP in North Carolina had M15 and M20 equipment in service as late

>near, I can't speak for when the last of the M15 was taken out, or
>abandoned in place, like at the station in my hometown in GA.
