Hi folks:

Thanks again to everyone who replied about my newbie receiver questions. I
ended up spending more than I wanted to, but I now have a Kenwood TS-430S
transceiver on the way. Should be fun, and I will actually have something
to hook up to the Dovetron (when it eventually gets here). Maybe I'll
even get motivated to get a license so I can use the tx portion of the
Kenwood.

Anyway, I have a couple more questions for anyone that knows the TS-430S:

- It has the "standard" ssb filter; I'm not sure what bw it is, but I
think it is 2.something KHz. There are apparently optional filters
available: a 1.8 KHz ssb filter, a 6 KHz am filter, and 500 and 270 Hz cw
filters. Are any of these desirable?

- There is an optional fm board available -- is that useful?

- The unit uses an external 13.8V 20A power supply, that I don't have.
Since I don't need to transmit, can I use a smaller ps for rx only? I have
a good HP supply that can be set for 13.8V and puts out 4A. What is the rx
current draw?

- Are there manuals online anywhere?

- Any tips or tricks to know about the unit?

thanks,

gil
