I am still cleaning out the shelves of things that were packed for the last
move (2 years ago). I pulled my venerable Model 14 ROTR out and set it up on
the workbench for a checkout. I don't even remember where I got it, but I do
know that I never did get around to running it. So, after loosening it up
and giving it some needed oil and grease, I hooked it to the loop and sent
some "FOX". Seemed to punch fine, but no print.
Of all things, the little "platen" was missing. It's about 1/4-inch in
diameter and about 3/8-inch high, as I recall. I didn't have any spares, so
I cut a piece of 1/4-inch dowel and put it into the platen's hole. Worked
fine...the rubber would be better, but this was a good expedient. Getting
the typebars to loosen up was a chore...
What I need is a source of hard rubber rod in 1/4-inch diameter ... any
ideas?
I'd also like to find the shelf that sits over the Model 14 TD on the 19
table. Don just ran a picture of his Navy 19 and it has the identical shelf.
