[GreenKeys] Teletype Machine

Henry, et al,

I remember seeing a photo, somewhere, of a teleprinter that was used for the
"hot line" between Russia and the US during Kennedy's time in office. It
looked
a little like a Model 15/Lorenz machine. However, a Model 28 would not be
out
of the question since they were used all over the place. I personally saw
a couple of 28 Compacts used by the Secret Service as they followed the
President in his travels (Johnson, at the time). If the producer is
looking for a 28, then it looks like you have what he needs.

I got the following email from someone making a documentary, who found
that I had some teletypes in working order. I am wondering
does anyone on this list have any idea what would have been the most likely
model of machine to have been in the Whitehouse during the Cuban Missile
Crisis?

I have two machines, desktop KSR here
http://www.ai.mit.edu/people/hqm/japan/teletype/

and a KSR floor standing cabinet
http://www.ai.mit.edu/people/hqm/japan/teletype/newtty/

What would have been most likely, and would
either of these machines been likely to have been present in
that situation? I.e., a military or civilian model, etc?

Thanks,
	Henry

Dear Mr. Minsky,
I am producing a documentary about former Secretary of Defense, Robert S.
McNamara with Cambridge filmmaker Errol Morris. We are trying to locate a
working teletype machine that would have been in the White House during the
Cuban Missile Crisis. Our researchers found out that it probably was the
Model 28 KSR. I would love to talk to you about the possibility of filming
your teletype machine Please give me a call at 617-782-7722(office)
617-901-3741(cell).

Sincerely,

  Michael Williams
