You may suspect the use of WD-40 on your machine in times past.
I had to force one sleeve bearing apart by wedging with a jack knife blade
to get the hopelessly stuck bearing freed up in my M-15. (The previous
owner had told me he'd "used WD-40 to keep it all working well")
This particular bearing was at the bottom rear of the machine, near the
bottom of the vertical carriage advance shaft, and had to do with the
carriage return or letters-figs function, I think.
