If the sample counter wrapps past 0xFFFF and there is an update to the DAC before it gets back to the "lock" value, then the system drops out of lock.  I never imagined that I'd get this sort of stability but it happened today.  I had 65,948 seconds between two updates.  That's a bit over 18 hours without a full 360 degrees of phase drift.
