[GPS_Standard] New GPS Receiver Startup

Hi Everybody;
 I just got my "new" GPS receiver, a Moto. Oncore+ OEM device) hooked up
to power and connected to a TTL to RS232 converter I use for testing
stuff (a known good widget). After powering it up I measured about 148Ma
at 5.0V with a little amplified antenna hooked up and by the window for
good satellite reception. This appears to be about right according to the
data info booklet.
 The 1 second pulse is coming through just fine as seen on my 'scope. I
could NOT measure any serial data output present on it's Com. output pin.
I don't know if this normal as this is the first GPS receiver I have
attempted to use as a non consumer (lost traveler).
 I'm sure that I'm missing something here. Any help would be MOST
appreciated!
