Chris, was KG4GOT going thru a repeater local to him on the same frequency
as W2MMD/R or were you hearing him direct (i.e. was he transmitting on
147.180 MHz)?
The Richmond, VA repeater on 147.180 MHz (WA4FC) is 253 miles from you, but
is listed in the ARRL repeater directory as DMR. It is 30 miles East of
Schuyler, VA.
The other 147.180 MHz repeater listed is N4NRV in Radford, VA. This FM
repeater is high in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but is over 400 miles from
Pitman, NJ.
Still, KG4HOT could have been hitting it, and you could have heard it,
because of the great elevation.

I just had a QSO via 2m RF by way of our repeater with a ham KG4HOT Timothy
Miller in Schuyler, VA, a crow-flies distance of 233.5 miles from my QTH,
which is darned near the repeater location. Sounded like he was sitting
next to me for a while. Lasted about ten minutes before it faded...
