You may find this software helpful which allows you to ramp up the speed of the individual letters but spaces them out to give you a chance to comprehend.  Many iterations in the software give various types of practice sessions.

IMHO, the first step is to learn to speak CW.  That way, you may practice by talking to yourself anytime you desire.

How do you speak CW?

a       di-da
b       dah-di-di-dit
c       dah-di-dah-dit
q       dah-dah-di-dah
1        di-dah-dah-dah-dah
9.      dah-dah-dah-dah-dit
etc.
