[GCARC] Power supply

Hi Todd...
The Icom IC-2300H is a single-band 2-meter radio with a 65W maximum power
output. According to its spec sheet, it draws 11 amperes at maximum output
power. With that in mind, and *if you are only concerned with powering
this particular radio,* a 30 amp power supply is overkill.
The rule of thumb that I suggest, and I follow myself, is to provide a
power supply capable of 150% of the maximum draw expected. THis allows the
power supply to meet the current demand with a comfortable margin, which
allows the power supply toi run cooler and last longer. Thus, for the
IC-23600H, a 20-amp supply will be a good fit.
If you are considering powering additional or other radios in the future,
then I would suggest going the other way, and getting a supply that can
meet considerable future needs, There is a good 50-amp supply available
that I like. I use it myself, and I put one on the test and repair bench
at the clubhouse. It is the TekPower TP-50SW, and it is available from
many sources, including Amazon. This PSU has some unique and attractive
features, including a noise offset adjustment.
The best supply is the one that meets your needs at a price that you can
afford...
