I finished RM “A” school Mar of 68 and they offered me Sub School and I said “no thank you”. So, I was assigned to the “Gator Navy”, transporting Marines across the ocean and landing them on the beach.

When I attended Navy Radioman "A" school in Bainbridge MD in 1971, we
had several guys that volunteered for Beach Jumper duty. In layman's
terms, they volunteered to be the radio operators for Marines in Vietnam.
NO thank you! I went for Submarine duty...
