I do not feel ripped off. I am making my feelings and opinion known. The spirit of the first amendment lives in all of us. At the Federal level and at my humble level.
I agreed that politics is not appropriate for this venue of Field Day. That is no excuse for limiting speech.
If you read Vinnie's email his personal views appear to be the overwhelming reason for his dictatorial approach to handling what he believes to be spewing politics.
Yes, you are correct GCARC is not a government entity nor Vinnie a government official. This does not give GCARC or any member the right to dictate what any other member can discuss or "spew". Everyone does have a right to walk away.
Your strict interpretation of the Constitution and the Amendment does not preclude me or anyone else from speaking up when my ability to speak is being imposed upon. The spirit of the First Amendment is what every Veteran served to defend.
I do not know anyone that makes the distinction and argues that I don't have the right to free speech simply because I am not operating at the government level.

Hi Bill.
If you don't want to be a member, I'm happy to personally refund your money. The club shouldn't suffer. No one should feel ripped off.
I'm puzzled that you are referencing your service, yet you're wrong about the First Amendment. You, of all people should have a strong command as I'm sure you've taken an oath to support the constitution.
Let's read the first amendment, since some folks may want a refresher.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
I understand and respect the sacrifices our service members make, but being a veteran doesn't allow you to rewrite the Constitution.
Vinnie's rules don't violate the first amendment because GCARC is not a government entity, and Vinnie is CERTAINLY not part of Congress. Only a government entity or representative can violate a person's first amendment rights.
Let’s keep politics out of radio, period.

I disagree.
I agree that Field Day is not the appropriate venue for political discussion.
But, issuing rules that violate the First Amendment is totally agregious. I and many others served in the Armed Forces of these United States to protect and honor those rights.
GCARC is a membership of individuals with varied beliefs and principles. If I agree or disagree with anyone is not of consequence.
I live in SC. I Have continued my membership in GCARC for a variety of reasons. I just renewed my membership. If I had read this proposed edict, I may have made a difference choice.
The flavor of this email seems to indicate some issue of a personal nature. Maybe it needs to be resolved elsewhere and otherwise.

In light of the rhetoric of recent years, I am imposing a "no political talk" rule at Field Day. Field Day is about ham radio. I'll be damned if I am going to have political rhetoric spewed on those 2 days. If you need to talk about it, talk about it when you are elsewhere.
If I hear any political talk, I am going to do a 2 strike scenario:
1. I will ask you stop
1. If you don't stop, I will ask you to leave.
1. If you don't leave, and since I cannot force you to leave, I will do the next best thing. I will NOT count the score of the band you are affiliated with, or the band you are hanging with at the time you are doing your spewing. So, all that work to put up antennas, put up a station, operate, take down the station, etc, will be for naught.
I look at ham radio as a refuge. I look to it to take me away from the problems of society, stresses of work, and whatever family issues you may have. I look at it as a 2 day vacation from the, world with the exception of ham radio.
I hope you agree.
