Happy New Year all.

Exciting news for all of you past and present packet users.

First of all I want to thank Charlie, K4GBB, for all of the help in

Getting the W4SLC FPACLINUX system configured and up and running.

Without Charlie this system would be no where close to being ready

For use. This system is using a LINUX operating system which allows

Multiple systems to be running and accessible in one computer at any

One time. For this reason we can have FPAC node, BBS, Winlink, Flexnet,

SEDAN and maybe an APRS gateway all running at the same time.

Charlie has been doing the setup of the system remotely and has not

Only dedicated a lot of his time to our system but also to other systems

Throughout the state. Charlie has had a lot of patient with me while I

Try to learn the systems and has been a great Elmer.

I have the W4SLC packet system up and running here at my home

Qth in So. Indian River County on the LAN (Local Area Network) frequency

Of 145.53. Currently working is the Local node, local BBS, link to the SEDAN

Network and the link to the WINLINK 2000 system. You can also connect to
various

Nodes and networks throughout the world. My antenna is at about 50 feet and

Christoph, KI4NED, has been able to get into the system from Port St Lucie,

So most of you should not have any problem get in. Here are the following
port listings:

W4SLC-1 is the BBS

W4SLC-8 is the node

W4SLC-10 is the Winlink node

>From the W4SLC-8 node you can also connect to the BBS, you can type PAR and
go to

The network in France. You can also connect to DXClusters as well.

You also can do a C 1 VERO (or PLMBAY, etc) to hop around the

SEDAN network as an example of some of the things one can do.

Keep in mind that the system is still under construction and we have many
protocols to

Change and add. I am hoping to get 2 more radios in addition to the 2 that
are already

Ported to the system in the hopes to develop the backbone links to
Okeechobee

And W. Palm. A 3rd radio will be configured for the backbone link to
Melbourne until

we can get the Indian River County LAN built and a permanent home for it
which will

Serve as a more reliable backbone link to the north.

So please dust off and fire up your tnc and give the system a workout. Play
around with the

Systems and please keep me posted as to any problems, wants and needs that
you may have.

I would like to see the system really worked out before I move it to its
permanent home

At the St Lucie EOC which I hope will be within the next few weeks.

Once everything gets finished and moved to it's permanent setup we will be
holding

Some informational sessions at the local meetings to help all those who want
to participate

In the revived packet world.

Let me know what you think.

73 and enjoy,

Wayne, KA1VRF
