I'd be concerned with the backwave if the oscillator isn't shut off  
between cycles.  We had this problem in 1999 when the oscillators  
could be DFed when one got close even when the transmitter was off.

I've used this circuit with good results:

simple to build from the junkbox, easy to key, no backwave, and the  
entire final emitter circuit can be replaced by either a parallel  
tuned circuit with a loaded Q of 1 ( 2uH and 1000pf) or a link winding  
around the antenna loading coil.
