I've been a ham for over 35 years, since junior high school. Haven't
been physically active until recently. I've done a lot of mobile-based
transmitter hunting with an occasional "sniff" at the end, typically
no more than 1/4 mile from the car.
Recently got into geocaching, ARDF and finally classic orienteering which
I joke about as being my three "Geeks in the woods" type of activities.
I attend most of the local(ish) orienteering meets, about a 90 to 120
mile drive each for me, about one a month.
Hardly ever do mobile hunts any more.
I have also taken up some local running events to stay in shape for both
orienteering and ARDF. 5K, 10K, ten-mile and half-marathon. I'm not
particularly fast, my best 10K is 47:50 but I'm working more on endurance
than speed right now.
And, if you're a thirsty trail runner trying not to get lost, you can't
beat your local Hash House Harrier group for fun training.
