   An interesting question.
I started the other way around, and so did a number of foxhunters
   here:
ie: Started foxhunting at uni -> Started ARDF when someone was looking
for an Aussie team for Region 3 ->
Started doing orienteering and street-O in order to get map
reading practice -> Became a regular
       orienteer also.
Now the Victorian ARDF Group is affiliated with both the WIA and the
local state orienteering body, so it's
both a radio club and an orienteering club (but in some ways more an
   orienteering club now).
So in the club, the number who went foxhunting -> -> orienteering
   number about 12
Only 1 of those had been orienteering prior to foxhunting. Many
   members are also members
of more typical orienteering clubs (in fact 3 are now on the
committee of one). This doesn't stop the
club from running a few pure or combined orienteering events on the
   state orienteering calender to
both raise the profile, and generate some income to in turn pay for
   affiliation costs.
In general, it is easier to tempt an orienteer to try a radio event,
rather than to tempt an amateur out of
his shack (not that either is easy!). How have others found it ?
Incidentally, it doesn't stop there, since I now also regularly
compete in Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO),
   Rogaines and the rare Ski-O.
   Cheers,
   Bruce
