My guess would have been the relay...  I forget exactly where the marker 
is injected into the receive chain, but I recall it being right at the 
relay.  As a test, connect the antenna to the RCA Antenna (RF in) 
connector on the back.  This is where the transverters insert the 
received RF when you use them.  This connector goes directly to the RX 
board and by-passes the relay completely.  This will eliminate the relay 
question...

My next step would be tuner cleaner on the entire band, mode, etc rotary 
switches.  The FT-101 is very mechanical!
