Which model 101 do you have?
I think that the WWV band position in all the 101/E/EE series is receive only because it's missing one or more transmit coils. There is a company selling 'WARC' band kits for those radios -

Another possible option is adding a crystal for 12 meters and using the 10 meter coils. I have a 101ZD where this was done, but the receive and transmit performance is down on 12. It does work, however.
Band crystals for the FT-101's are listed on ebay from time to time also.
