Hello all
Due to the ever increasing Noise in the longwave spectrum here in the
Mobile home park, I'm going in a somewhat different direction and am
thinning down my herd of receivers. (can only listen to one at a time
anyway) NO, the Hallicrafters Boatanchors and DX-398 are NOT for sale.
Anyway, I have a nice Rycom Model 3131 Frequency Selective
Voltmeter. While actually a piece of test equipment these make good VLF
and Longwave Radio receivers as they tune from well BELOW 10kHz to 1600kHz
in 3 bands, an area of the spectrum where most receivers start to degrade
sharply.
The unit is sensitive enough I was able to clearly copy JJY Japan on 40kHz
here in California with my sloper antenna and NO pre-amp, using the
bridging (high impedance) input. I haven't tried for the Russian VLF
stuff. I have logged many Longwave NDB's (Non directional Beacons)on this
unit.
Some specifications:
1. Tuning Range: 1 kHz to 1500kHz in 3 bands. Gear driven two speed tuning.
2. Input Impedances: 75, 135 600 Ohms Balanced or Unbalanced, Hi Impedance
bridging mode.
3. Bandwidth: 250Hz +/- 25Hz at -3dB. (Xtal filter). NOTE: It ONLY has
the 250 Hz filter, no 2500Hz filter. Not sure if it was removed or an
option in this model.
4. Meter: 3 Inch diameter calibrated in Volts/dBm.
5. dBm Ranges: -80 to +20 dBm at the 3/4 scale (0dB) point.
6. Lowest readable signal -100dBm.
7. Modes: AM/LSB/USB.
8. Internal 250kHz Xtal Calibrator for amplitude calibration.
9. Headphone output, though I find it works better if feeding an outboard
audio filter such as an Autek QF-1A, DSP etc.
10. Internal AC power supply will also charge an internal 12 Volt Nicad
pack (not installed). You could run it on 12VDC for portable operation
(connecting to the internal battery leads).
Built like a tank the heavy aluminium case shows some scratches and some
lettering on the front panel is rubbed partially off etc but otherwise good
condition. No front cover.
Includes a copy of the operation/service manual for the model 3121A, (same
model without the Balanced inputs).
Asking $80.00 Plus UPS shipping for 17 pounds to your QTH (it weighs about
14 lbs), US Postal Money order or Cashiers check.
