HiAll,

A rather odd problem here and I am hoping that one of you may have a solution
for it.

Teac model A-5500. There seems to have been two versions, both look the same
externally and both bear the same model number. However, inside is another
story. The one version shown in the service manual is very cheaply built. The
tape transport drives the reels with belts. The one I have uses the normal Teac
transport mechanics with no belts, other than for the tape counter. A much
better quality transport by far. The two are easily seen as being vastly
different, even to the untrained observer.

Teac apparently had somebody else design and build the original tape transport.
I have heard nothing but bad reports about it, including a possible fire hazard.
Hence, Teac quietly replaced it with their more standard transport, never said
anything about doing so, other than problems had been corrected. Externally,
identical. The same model number on both. No service guide for the repaired
model.

I need to communicate with somebody who has knowledge of the replacement ttape
transport system or service material, if any exists, for it. If you can help,
please contact me direct.

Thanks for the stretch on bandwidth here, but it is for my Ham Shack/SWL
Listening Post.
