Indian River County Amateur Radio operators will be conducting Homeland =
Defense Training. On September 9 the topic will be the National Traffic =
System (NTS) and NTS message handling. The NTS has a message protocol =
for accurate and efficient transmission of information essential to =
Homeland Defense. The session will be held at 7:45pm in the Indian River =
County Office of Emergency Management. All individuals interested in =
assisting with emergency communications for the citizens of Indian River =
County are welcome to attend.=20
Amateur (Ham) Radio is an integral part of the nation's Homeland =
Defense. The American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the National =
Organization for Amateur Radio recently received a homeland security =
grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The ARRL =
is currently using the grant funding to begin training the first of =
about 1700 ham radio operators. The local Vero Beach Amateur Radio Club =
is an ARRL affiliated club.
Information about ARRL training programs and upcoming local training =
will be available at the session.
