Mark,
 Sorry to hear of your friend's difficulty. I have a friend who has severe 
"Essential Tremors" that makes it almost impossible for him to use any type 
key except the sideswiper (or cootie). He is able to use this type key up to 
about 15 or 16 wpm (he "head" copies 40 to 45 wpm--not too shabby at his 
nearly 88 years). Possibly your friend could try a sideswiper? Or at least 
experiment with different type keys and hopefully find a solution.
