Hello FISTS,

I just spoke with Lara, Alan's financee; she told me that Alan had suffered
a stroke caused by long term diabetes while driving on 3rd August and was
taken by ambulance to the hospital.  At this time he was able to speak fine
to her by telephone but things got quicky worse, by the beginning of the
week his responses were very few, by Wednesday they had reconcilled
themselves to know that they would lose Alan soon, and by Thursday, Alan was 
only able to squeeze Lara's hand.  By Friday he was not responsive, and it 
was Alan's wish that should he be in a such a state that no heroic measures 
be taken to prolong his life, so he died later that day.

There will probably be a service at the end of this week - but plans are not
firm, but there will be a 30 day anniversary celbration of Alan's life.

Alan had been active in doing medevial reinactments, fencing, calligraphy,
folk dancing with his new love, Lara, they had found a group that did all of
this.  (Too bad they didn't have a medevial radio set :-)
