[Fists] Mail problem

Hello FISTS members,
There is a delivery problem with Issue 4. I mailed it a couple weeks ago,
and some of them are starting to be bounced back to me as "undeliverable as
addressed" because the printer messed up some of the labels. The ones
bouncing back only have the name, city, state, and zip code on them!
It's impossible to tell at this point how many Keynotes have these
incomplete labels on them. I talked to the printer about it, and he feels
terrible - they got a new label printing machine and had a hard time
getting the labels to print. He checked them before they were used, but
apparently they didn't check close enough. He said they would "make it up
to us" for the extra expense, but that doesn't solve the problem of
non-delivered Keynotes.
There isn't any pattern to the QTH's of the undeliverables. I'm going to
have to put each non-deliverable one in an envelope, look up the addresses
and hand write out the envelopes. This could take some time. So, I wanted
to let you know that the newsletter will be getting to you, later than
sooner.
The good news is that Issue 5 is ready to go to the printers tomorrow and
will be ready to be mailed next week. You can bet that the printer will be
paying close attention to the accuracy of the labels.
I'm sorry about the inconvenience, but it's one of those things.
Murphy?
Renewal postcards were sent out last week. If you recently renewed, say
since the beginning of July, pse disregard it. If you have renewed earlier
than that and believe you got the postcard in error, please let me know. I
can check the records and be sure I have the correct renewal date for you
so you aren't removed from the Active Members list in error.
The Sprint was challenging because of the IARU contest. Boy, those guys are
cut-throat, aren't they! I don't remember having this problem in previous
years, does anyone else?
On another note, please welcome Jim Ranieri, AA9LS, 2198, to the position
of Potential Member Infomation Manager. He doesn't get any pay, but he gets
a fancy title, hi hi. Joe Pardue, W5OS, did this job for over 10 years,
and we gained many new members because of his welcoming manner and friendly
"first face" of FISTS.
Jim will be sending out the potential member applications and sample
Keynotes to people who request them. Thank you to Joe for his YEARS of
service to FISTS, and thanks to Jim for volunteering. There were others who
volunteered also, it's much appreciated. I've added them to a list of
people who will be contacted the next time a volunteer is needed.
