I took the General in 1965, all multiple choice - I believe 60 questions,
and a send and receive test for Morse at 13 wpm.
But in Boston they still gave an Extra where you had to draw schematics.
I took the Extra (when I finished my two years "qualifying time") in 1967
when I was 16 years old, and there were 100 questions, 10 of which were
schematics - I remember the examiner, Ben Hartley of the FCC Boston office
pointing out that I missed a power supply bypass resistor, and otherwise my
drawing of push-pull triode amplification was correct, but he had to fail me
on that question for that reason. He told me that other than that I got
them all right. I knew I had aced the exam because I had studied and knew
my subject well.
I was prepared!
