My Message to Kathy at ARRL Sent This Morning. (Thanks Fred)

Good Morning!
I am writing to you to let you know that after 51 years of membership, I
will not be renewing my membership. I will not go into a
lengthy explanation because it would serve no useful purpose. I feel
very strongly, that ARRL no longer represents me and
my particular interests. The new licensing structure you support flies
in the face of all I worked so hard to achieve over
my 56 years as a licensed Ham. I struggled as a young teen ager to pass
my first test and had to learn Code at 13 WPM and
I had to learn theory where I could draw schematics of transmitters and
receivers and oscillators as well as design antennas.
I had a burning desire to become a ham. In Feb 1946, I and three friends
all went to the downtown Federal Building in Los
Angeles and took the test for the Class B License and all of us passed.
We became W6DNV, W6CCP, W6ZWH, and me W6BCT.
The achievement factor cannot be measured in todays terms. But, becoming
a ham by LEARNING, NOT MEMORIZING,
launched me on a career in electronics where I went on to earn a BSEE
degree at UCLA and subsequently, a very successful
career. It all started with a young teen agers curiousity and desire to
achieve. That is no longer the case today. There is no
incentive to learn the code, learn the theory without memorizing the
published questions. All four of us have had very successful
careers, especially W6CCP, who spent a lifetime being a very good doctor
of medicine. It is the desire to learn with a goal to achieve
that "Drove The Train". Today, we are a dumbed down society driven by
greed and money and I hurt inwardly to see the
institution that I so revered over the years succumb to the greed and
desire to please the Radio Manufacturers.
Thank you for many years of true service to our community of Hams when
you used to promote the true achievements our country
was founded upon. There is no need to further discuss the subject.
Thank You,
