Carl:

You sound like you're running for ARRL Section Manager, or your
Division's Director or Vice Director! You've got the ARRL policy down
pat, that's for sure! FB on the code training, though -- keep up the
good work. Just keep in mind that the only thing that has ever had
any success at getting people to learn and use the Morse code has
been the code testing requirements for HF licensing. That's a fact!

I was surprised that no one mentioned the removal of code requirements from
international treaties as a reason to remove the code requirement from the
 F.F.C.'s requirements for operating privileges.
For me, once the treaties removed the requirement, and other countries have
now removed the requirement in their FCC equivalents, I changed my mind and
think the F.C.C. should remove the requirement.
I do enjoy C.W. and I do not want the band allocations to go away for C.W.
and digital modes. I do advocate people to learn C.W. and I would continue
to encourage new hams to learn it, even if it were not a requirement for
licensing. I have conducted a weekly two meter FM repeater mores code net
since April of 1997 and have helped many in the central Ohio area learn and
practice their code. I don't plan on stopping this net any time soon.
