AVG is free, and I suppose you get what you pay for, but for a tightwad
like me, it's far better than nothing. It's got me out of trouble a few
times in the four years I've been using it.
I think that a lot of the trouble is caused by large numbers of people
who trust in luck and run no protection, so when a mailworm gets loose
it spreads like a forest fire between millions of barefoot machines
first, then attacks us.
So AVG may not be as good as some of the subscription systems, but it is
definitely the best of the free ones, and I would promote it as the
"essential minimum protection" for anybody even considering connecting
to the internet.
