I'm sorry to see Poptronics bite the dust. Several years ago, Poptronics was
created out of the merger for Popular Electronics and Radio-Electronics, so
that means that two long-time electronics hobbyist magazines are now
completely out of business. Here's the message you get when you try to call
up the Poptronics website:

POPTRONICS.COM

WE ARE REMODELING. PLEASE BE
PATIENT WITH US. CHECK BACK IN
A COUPLE OF DAYS. ALL FUNCTIONALITY
WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON.

Back in the 60s, my father got into hi-fi equipment, building some Heathkits
and he even built his own speakers. He subscribed to both Popular
Electronics and Electronics Illustrated for many years. I would, of course,
read them religiously.

Before I got my ham license in 1971, I did a lot of shortwave listening, and
did have one of those WPE certificates. I bet I even still have it somewhere
in my "files."

73!
