[Fists] a little off topic but

Can any of you network wizards out there help me with a question. Since
getting a high speed full time I-net connection, I have had many reports
of hacking attempts, trojan horses etc. Some where I heard that a high
speed router can act as a virtual firewall and make the machines on a
network invisible to the outside world. Is this true and is it a big
deal to setup? Right now I am running 4 machines through a work group
hub
each as its own IP address from the provider. Thanks in advance and
sorry for the off topic post.
