Hi All,
I didn't see a lot of comments on the one-time 15 year FISTS anniversary
award, but here are mine. I'd like to hear what others think.
- This seems like a fine thing and adequately challenging for intermediate
and seasoned operators. The theme of using the number "15", seemed to be
taken rather loosely, though. :)
- My guess is that only a very small percentage of FISTS will actually achieve
this award. For instance, the DX portions seem a little daunting out here
on the left coast. I'm by no means a "full-time" operator, but I'll bet
I can count the number of English FISTS QSOs I have in 3-4 years as a FISTS
member on one hand (perhaps even including the ones I got while in Ukraine,
hi). The number of club contacts actually seems even harder to achieve,
especially given my experience in just getting about 20 clubs on the air
for the past Coast-to-Coast events.
- Was thought given to an additional, more inclusive, award to celebrate
15 years of FISTS? That would certainly seem in the spirit of the club where
the motto is Accuracy Transcends Speed, which I think also implies that
the love of CW is key here, not QRO, high-gain antennas at 90 ft., and daily
operating possible.
