My search so far, has netted a lot of interesting information.
But I am starting to fear that my remembered folk lore might
be just that, unsubstantiated folk lore.

There is a key in the Nimitz Museum in Texas that was used to
relay the surrender message from another ship.

Also, it appears the actual message form from the Missouri,
given to the operator to send, was retained and does still
exist.  But I am starting to fear I imagined the part about the
actual key from BB63 being known and documented.

Most likely it would be a Vibroplex Original stamped on the
bottom US Navy, or one of the stock Vibroplex military Lightning
Bug versions.
