Thats a great idea Dan, and a nice list of things to get the ball rolling!
Other conversation starters that I like:
1. If I work an "8" who is living in California I always ask where they got
the "8" call. Sometimes it is an interesting story.
2. When an OP tells me his age and it is greater than 70 I usually ask if he
served in WWII. 9 times out of 10 that makes for a great conversation.
3. Have you ever been to the Dayton Hamvention? What's your favorite part,
flea market or inside exhibits?
4. Have you ever visited __blank__? (Grand Canyon, Disneyworld, Bahamas,
etc.).
One other nit to pick, it would be much, much easier for a FISTS op who is
collecting numbers to ASK first if I want or need more than their FISTS
number. Something like "FISTS NR IS 6641 6641 BT DO YOU WANT MORE?" is
infinitely better than the more frequent, "FISTS NR IS XXXX XXXX CC NR IS
YYYY YYYY PLATIMUM NR IS ZZZZ ZZZZ IRIDIUM NR IS AAAA AAAA", etc. ad
nauseum. Since I only log the FISTS number, I don't really care about all
the others. I know a lot of people DO care about them, but asking first
couldn't hurt.
Of course, if an OP is sending slow enough I have made good use of that time
by going to refill the coffee cup while the endless string of numbers roll!
:-)
