[Fists] Help with MFJ keyer needed

Greetings=85and Happy Holidays! I received an early Christmas gift, and
I=92m having trouble with it. I hope someone can help. I got a Bencher
Iambic paddle=85and a MFJ Deluxe Electronic Keyer model MFJ-407C. For
some reason I=92m struggling getting it hooked up. I ran a piece of 2
conductor shielded cable from the keyer (one conductor on each post) to
a =BC stereo phono plug. The dot to the tip and the dash to the ring. =
It
won=92t work :-(.

For the heck of it I took the wire off the ring and put it on the shield
and then no matter what I do with the paddles I get a steady stream of
dots. =20

Has anyone used this keyer? Sure would appreciate some help. I =
haven=92t
been on CW in 10 years, and I was telling my XYL that I wanted to get
back into it and join FISTS. So, she got me an early Christmas
present!! =20
