Actually, if we add a 'contest" aspect to the emergency communications-
related part of things we may see more FD turnout.

Let's talk to manufacturers and dealers and see about Field Day
prizes for new Hams who log a certain number of hours -- their
names go into a pool from which winners are drawn.

Or perhaps some members who have technical expertise could offer
a voucher for repair of gear, others could offer vouchers to help put
up antennas or help set up a radio room, others still to assist with
license upgrades, and others to provide a free tour of a facility to
which they have direct or indirect access (e.g. a TV studio, high-tech
facility, etc.).

We have lots of neat people in our ranks and we probably should
make greater use of their talents and unusual access to encourage
new Hams ... and existing ones as well.

Happy New Year!
