From the "Little Red Barn Net" group remailer -
Since this remailer does not allow attachments, I'll re-type the message
from the picture that was included with the original posted email.
"I have been a victim of a scammer working in Indiana. He uses a
wheelchair as a prop to gain the trust at hamfests here in Indiana. I
lost a Yeasu (sic) 847 and an MFJ 986 tuner to this fellow. He's had
multiple callsigns, I was told by a fellow ham that's known of him for 8
or 10 years, I'm the 10th victim he knows of. His previous calls:
KD9EZZ, K9EGL, AC9OE, AC9OR, AC1VV, N1HOE, AC9RF, AC9UE, currently using
AK9EN. WRMF750 is his GMRS valid April 2021. He's also active on
Citizens Band as 'Big Eagle' in the Indianapolis area. Don't trust him
with any credit. Harley KC9GLD"
Also included was a picture of the gentleman in regard, in his mobile
chair, taken (I assusme) at another ham swap somewhere in the past. If
anyone wants this or can get it posted, as it may be of some help at our
local hamfests here, let me know, or ask for a forwarded missive from
someone from the Ft Wayne club.
As I have been involved with hamfests for a long long time, I hate when
this type of **** happens to anyone at a swap, it's happened to me a few
times in the past, from people that I knew (or, THOUGHT I knew) so the
issue at hand is, if someone is pressing you to help them out, get as
much information from them as possible, that YOU ARE COMFORTABLE with,
or just let them know that you cannot let items walk away without
payment - there is NO SHAME in being cautious and smart. If you need,
ask me, or Bryan, or anyone else that has been doing business at swaps
for years, to see if we know anything that you don't.
As always, just be careful in your dealings - the world is a sucky place
anymore, and we all need to be aware.
