So -
-- There was a post from a gentleman that stated he had just acquired a
brand-new Kenwood 590SG, titled -
Got a new to me Kenwood TS-590SG. I can't just be happy about it.

Edit: thanks to all of your comments, I have come to realize that
there's a lot more to this rig than my initial impression led me to
believe. I appreciate all your feedback.
Edit 2: removed original content due to loss of relevancy.

You know, sometimes I listen to my fancy new SDR and I wonder, with all
the notching and filtering and auto-adjusting, am I really hearing
what's actually out there ? I mean I can see "everything" on the
waterfall display and I can just scroll over to the signal, so you'd
think the answer is yes... but every single time I fire up the old
FT-101 or the FT-501, I am amazed by a) the signals I hear which do NOT
make it onto the waterfall display and b) the enjoyment of hearing
signals in their naked, unfiltered, unnotched, unautomodulated, natural
state. Sometimes I don't even bother with the new radio and go straight
to the old 70's rigs, just to get a sense of reality first and to feel
the thrill of manually scanning the band with a big, fat dial. I'm not
totally convinced that the new radios are better.
-- Anyway - more justification for me being a grumpy old fart . . .
