The transmitters and antennas are stowed away for another year as we wind
down Field Day 2021. First, a huge thank you to everyone who ventured out
to the Woodlot, despite the threats of never-ending rain (that thankfully
never happened). It was great to have so many of our newest club members
present to observe and even try their hand at contesting on HF. I also
wanted to thank directly KD8PUD for arranging our Fulton County 911
coordinator for a site visit today. There will be more on our conversation
with Richard Kilgour coming soon, especially how we can have our emergency
services efforts tied more directly to the county. We were also treated to
a site visit from our ARRL Ohio Section Manager, Tom Sly, who took time
away from his radio club to venture around the state, making a stop in our
little corner.
A word on statistics, we conducted 166 Digital QSOs, 146 Phone QSOs, and 7
CW CSOs for a total of 319 QSOs for a combined QSO score of 492 with
appropriate multipliers, and yes, one of those was also a satellite QSO we
bounced off of the International Space Stations V/U onboard repeater to a
station in Tennessee.
Our power multiplier and all appropriate bonus points (thanks to Walter
Harper, KE8QNF, the Mayor of Belmore, OH, for stopping out) set us up with
a claimed total score of 2,334 points.
We contacted 45 states (along with DC and Puerto Rico) and 4 Candian
Provinces and were treated to a rare 6/10 meter opening with 40 minutes
left in the contest (I didn't know KB8ELG could get a beam antenna and 6,
rig up and running that quickly, it was a sprint to the end).
