Here is a little history that some people may remember, but all should
know, in regards to Jack Joyner.

I decided as a teen to start working on radios, and try to utilize
electronics as a hobby. As you know, I have turned that start into a
career, and I have Mr. Joyner to thank for that. I started in a local
CB shop as an installer, and when the bench tech at the time decided to
leave for greener pastures, I was allowed to get onto the bench and show
what skills I had, which weren't many at that time. Jack was in between
jobs, and would pick up repairs and deliver them back to this shop, and
would occasionally look over my shoulder and correct my mistakes. He
was one of two good mentors I had during my teens and early twenties,
that taught me how to troubleshoot to the core of electronic circuits,
by using my head, without having to have a schematic or diagram or
specific information of the task at hand, and I am forever grateful for
having someone give me that 'tough-love' teaching. I took those skills
into the real world of radio repair, and have tried to always remember
what I had learned, and what new I *can* learn, by thinking outside the
box a bit to glean what the real issue of a problem is and to find a
resourseful way to resolve it. I still don't know all there is to know,
but I *do* know that I can find out by looking further, asking, and
learning.

I believe Jack was a club member years ago, and between himself and
Dale Little N8MI, they kept the original GE MastrII repeater going through
it's original acquisition until Gene Wonders took over, and then my
entrance into the system. So, thanks to all of them for that.

As I stated on the Barnes Chapel website, Jack was an immensely smart
man, and he will be sorely missed amongst his family and close friends,
along with anyone involved with his outside interests. As a community
of hams, we have lost another valuable resource of legacy information
and will have to learn to 'step up and keep up' with our goals as ham
radio operators, lest we forget what our previous founders stood for.
